Sandra Bullock donates $1m to Japan

Actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 Million dollars to the American Red Cross on behalf of herself and her family to assist Japan, following the earthquake and tsunami. The organisation commented, 'The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from Sandra Bullock and her family. This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan.'

Sandra also gave $1 million to Doctors Without Borders following the Haiti earthquake in 2010. So far she has given the biggest celebrity contribution, and other stars are supporting the cause also. Including Lady Gaga who raised over $250,000 by designing a red and white wristband 'We pray for Japan,' in both English and Japanese on sale for just $5. On Twitter Lady Gaga tweeted, 'Monsters in just 48 hrs you've raised a quarter of a million dollars for Japan Relief. It's important we help. X.' Gaga and a number of other celebrities have come forward using various social networking sites to raise much needed donations.

Katy Perry tweeted: 'Remember as you go about your day please #prayforjapan & if you are able, text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to Japan's emergency relief.'

Justin Bieber reached out to his fan base saying, 'Japan is one of my favourite places on earth - it's an incredible culture with amazing people. My prayers go out to them. We all need to help.'
