My First Zumba Fitness Experience

Yay! I've just started my Zumba fitness experience after retiring from the Pussycat Dolls Workout DVD - which is still fab, I'm still going to do that also. Me and my fiancĂ© started the Zumba DVD today and it was hot! So much fun. I'm really big on dancing and basically jumping around to lose weight and keep the body toned so this is perfect for me. My fiancĂ© is a football coach so he's in the gym alot anyway, and does football training every week and games on Saturdays, he willingly did the DVD with me and loved it as well.

This is what my Zumba DVD collection consists of...

[1] Zumba Introduction - 1 minute.  Welcome message & Intro to Zumba
[2] Zumba Basics - 55 minutes. Beginners guide to all the dance moves used in Zumba
[3] Zumba 20 min express - 20 minutes. Workout & cool down. Fab for a quick routine
[4] Zumba Cardio Party - 45 minutes Cardio session - Great fun with a workout partner
[5] Zumba Sculpt & Tone - 40 minutes. Great for the guys, my fiance really loves this workout
[6] Zumba Live! & Flat Abs - 15-20 minutes. We only do the Flat Abs part of this workout. Amazing for working the core muscles, tightening the abs to form definition, love handles, & lower tummy problems areas.

My Weekly Workout Routine...

[1] Monday - Zumba Basics
[2] Tuesday- Cardio Party
[3] Wednesday - Sculpt & Tone
[4] Thursday - Zumba Flat Abs
[5] Friday - Zumba 20 Min Express

On the weekends I still do my Pussycat Dolls workout DVD but only the warm up and cool down sessions which are around 10 minutes each. So basically Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are my 20 minute workout days. 4 times a week are the longer sessions which is enough for me - as it keeps me feeling fitter and leaner whilst toning my body. Its also important to eat a healthy balanced diet. I have junk food once or twice a month - Fried chicken is a huuuuuge weakness and I adore ice cream. My sweet tooth is incredible.. ;)

Here's a little bit about Zumba...

The story of how Zumba actually started out is so inspiring and innovative. In Columbia in the mid 90's, Aerobics teacher Alberto 'Beto' Perez basically forgot to bring his session music  to his class and had to improvise with the music in his car - traditional Latin salsa and merengue. The class was an absolute hit - where Beto cleverly combined aerobics with dance to a Latin beat.

He moved to the United States bringing his new contagious workout idea back in 1999 and now over 20,000 instructors teach Zumba in 75 countries around the world. 400 are in England, and that number is steadily increasing. The basic principle behind Zumba is so simple - you get fit and have fun at the same time. It's also important to remember that you don't have to know how to dance professionally and the beauty of it, is that it encourages you to add your own style. A typical hour long Zumba class uses four basic rhythms based on easy-made versions of salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton [ As well as a little mambo, flamenco, rumba and calypso. Flamenco - I did today and its so hot! Gotta be my favourite..]

Whilst listening to the music and dancing you easily forget that you've burnt calories and toned your body. Its a great way to lose weight, increase your strength, reflexes and co-ordination and most of all boost your happiness and self confidence. It has amazing body-beautifying benefits if you follow it with a set dietary regime. Gorgeous Instructor Naomi Di Fabio says, 'It’s like being at a party! It’s easy to follow so people don’t have to think too much about what they’re doing and can just get into it. Then, of course, the music is great and just makes you want to dance.'

Find out more, join the Zumba Party, and have fun working out. xoxo
