Jermaine Dupri launches Social site Global 14

Top producer Jermaine Dupri has launched his social networking site Global 14 - which he promises will be the coolest, hippest city on the Internet as well as becoming the social notifier - where users can socially inform their peers and traditionally also use the site for social networking.

Apparently Dupri has always thought of creating an Internet project when he was President of Urban Music at Virgin Records working on Janet Jackson's album 20 Y.O. He also discovered new talented singer Dondria on one of the Internets most preferred video websites - YouTube.

He told AllHiphop, 'I created a contest for Janet's album where I went to the Internet and asked fans to create an album cover for her. That was the beginning of me engaging people on the Internet. It was overwhelming and it was the most records she ever sold in her first week. That let me know the people wanted to be involved.'

The website is off to a flying start with over 10,000 subscribers and almost 100,000 visitors each month. Celebrities to check out the new site are Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Nelly, Bow Wow, Monica, Kelly Rowland, Anthony Hamilton, amongst others.  Jermaine Dupri states that the difference between his community on Global 14 and Twitter or Facebook is - his own celebrity status.

He continues, 'None of those have an owner that you actually know and feel like you have something in common. People only know the Facebook owner [Mark Zuckerberg] now because of his money. You wouldn't have hung out with him before you knew what he did. I have an influence on producers, songwriters, artists and creative people in general.'

An interesting addition to Jermain's site is the listed discussion groups which vary from dating and relationships to cooking, education, music and sex. 'Its got the heartbeat of a musician but its a social networking site, I believe that if you don't own your own content in the next two years, they will all be out of business. This is just me controlling my own content, because I am content creator. If you need a platform to put your creative content out, that is what this is,' he boasts.

Jermaine hopes to show the next generation of America that  there is more to computers than just watching crazy videos, posting pictures and reading about celebrities - an excellent meaningful concept which I'm sure users will be intrigued by.
