Mariah Carey's lavish new nursery for her baby twins

Mariah Carey has proudly given Life & Style Magazine a glimpse into her twins new nursery in Bel Air, California - the gorgeous mansion she shares with husband Nick Cannon. The nursery is beautifully decorated with her signature logo - butterflies and cute toy animals including a huge giraffe - a gift from Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne.

'I wanted to create a beautiful, tranquil, cozy environment for the babies,' Mariah expressed. 'Everything matches, but pieces are individualized to celebrate the twins as separate entities. I feel like I’m bringing two individuals into the world, so I wanted to do more than cookie-cutter styles in blue and pink.'

Decorator Mario Buatta and AFK Furniture's Gail Sedigh cleverly transformed the rooms. They decided on a pink and green theme and bed trimmings as opposed to the traditional pink and blue colours.

Mariah also used her own music for inspiration.  'The ceiling has orangey-pink clouds in a blue sky with golden stars twinkling. It’s based on two songs I wrote that are fan favourites, Underneath the Stars and Close My Eyes,' she revealed. 'Sometimes I just sit in the nursery and stare at the ceiling because I love it so much. To me, it symbolizes wanting my children to dream as big as possible and to let their imaginations be unbridled.'

Mariah cannot wait to become a mother and only has less than a month to go, the twins are due on May 14th. 'Being a mother is probably the hardest job in the world. I feel like, in a lot of ways, children come into the world to teach us, It’s going to be a delicate balance between raising them around glitz and glamour and keeping them grounded. One thing I’m sure of is that I’ll be grateful for the twins every day, no matter what.'

To read the full interview the new issue of Life & Style is out in the US on Friday.
